Erin is a Colorado native and is proud to have been practicing law in her home state since 2000. Erin’s strength is establishing rapport with her clients that builds into long-lasting relationships of confidence and trust.
The estate plans Erin develops are as unique as her clients. Her clients include single adults, families with young children, aging parents, disabled dependents, blended and non-traditional families. These clients may simply want to preserve a small nest egg for their children or may have substantial wealth that needs to be insulated from taxation and reserved for future generations. Regardless of net worth, or their individual family situations, Erin enjoys getting to know her clients and designing straightforward, robust estate plans that meet their needs and exceed expectations for a reasonable fee.
Erin is accomplished at efficiently and cost effectively helping survivors carry out their loved ones’ wishes, a process known as estate administration. She helps her clients determine if a probate proceeding is necessary and, if so, she advises the executor (personal representative) throughout the entire process. Erin also advises heirs, beneficiaries and creditors on their rights during the process of estate administration. Because Erin has helped hundreds of people navigate estate administration and probate proceedings, she can help make this part of losing a loved one, stress free and low cost, even if it includes winding up family businesses and the sale of real estate. Erin has the necessary expertise to see that the more complex matters are handled fairly and efficiently.
Sometimes an estate plan is subject to scrutiny – children are disinherited, untrustworthy people take advantage of the elderly, executors become greedy. Regrettably, family feuds are unavoidable at times. Erin has experience bringing, defending and settling these disputes. She successfully settled several will contest cases, protecting millions of dollars for the intended beneficiaries. Erin helps you analyze your issue and whenever possible, strives for speedy and practical resolution.
As our population ages and dementia-type diseases sadly become commonplace, an increasing number of our clients must care for loved ones who are unable to care for themselves. Erin helps clients determine if the appointment of a guardian or conservator is necessary. Because of her reputation and expertise in these proceedings, colleagues or the court often ask her to serve as counsel for the party for whom protection is being sought. Erin is always willing to discuss your situation and help you determine what, if any, action can or should be taken. Her goal is always to serve the best interests of the person with diminished capacity and, whenever possible, to resolve any dispute without unnecessary judicial intervention.
Before specializing in the area of estate planning and probate, Erin earned her degree in business management. She initially practiced law as business lawyer at the prestigious law firm of Holland & Hart LLP. Erin brings that experience with her, and uses it to advise clients on business formation, contracts, succession planning and complex business matters. Erin also advises clients on the establishment and qualification of tax exempt organizations, public charities and private foundations.
In 1993, Erin earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, magna cum laude, from Colorado State University. In 2000, she earned her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Case Western Reserve University.
Erin is an active member of the Larimer County Bar Association and the Colorado Bar Association, Trust and Estate Section.
